Ascending 5ths Tuning(Uncrossed)
I now play an "Ascending 5ths" tuning on my Grand Stick. The Ascending 5ths tuning has become my new standard (Fall 2011). It allows me to get the bass sounds with my rhythm hand. I have a new appreciation for the Stick. The Sound is punchy, the pickups are balanced and the action is low so it's relatively easy to play. At first I thought it would be difficult to switch tunings because of the new chordal shapes and 4ths/5ths relationship of notes. It turned out to be fairly straightforward. Yes, it's more difficult to grab the chords and you are forced to jump around more with 5ths but the bass sound really fills out the total sound, especially when playing solo. I especially enjoy this tuning for looping compositions. The added bass notes allow for a lot of music to be made on one instrument. |
